EDMONTON - Justin Schultz has always been part of the Edmonton Oilers long-term plans.

How much those plans were worth, however, became a sticking point during contract negotiations this summer.

In the end, the two sides came to a one-year agreement, affording Schultz a year to determine his own value moving forward.

“From our standpoint, as an organization, it was a good compromise for Justin,” said Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish. “Justin gave us one of the best moments for our franchise in the last number of years when he chose Edmonton. It really highlighted the potential in the group that we had and him being very much a key part of that core group."
