EDMONTON - It's official: Oilers great Ryan Smyth has retired.

The 38-year-old winger capped speculation at a 2 p.m. news conference at Rexall Place on Friday.

His final game will be versus the Canucks, Saturday night at home.

"There comes a time in life when you must turn the page, and today I'm doing that," Smyth said.

A running joke was how long hed manage to go without crying. General Manager Craig MacTavish gave him a box of tissue when they sat a table for the news conference.
