EDMONTON - So the Edmonton Oilers are coming home from a successful road trip with a record of 9-4-3 in their last 16 games.

And they have 10 of their last 13 at home!

So, does the long suffering fan become excited and enthused now that the team has put together the kind of record many expected to see them put together at the start of the season?

Go ahead.

I double-dog dare you.

It’s hard not to feel sorry for the Oilers that way. Not the organization. The players. Especially the new ones like Matt Hendricks, Ben Scrivens and Viktor Fasth.

How does a fan get hopped up about them at this stage? They’re still 29th.

And read the standings. Really read the standings.

The whole story is there. The recent run doesn’t change it. If Edmonton was located on the other side of the Mississippi, maybe.

The Oilers, with their win in Carolina Sunday, now have a 14-12-4 record against Eastern Conference teams.
