ST. LOUIS - Sam Gagner is a maybe, which also means he’s a maybe not.

So the Edmonton Oilers have summoned Anton Lander on emergency recall in case Gagner’s ankle isn’t ready for Thursday’s game in St. Louis.

Gagner left Tuesday’s win in Minnesota after landing awkwardly on a hit from Matt Cooke, but returned for the third period and overtime. He took Wednesday’s practice off and won’t know if he’s good to go until the morning skate.

“I just fell funny and my skate got caught on the ice,” he said. “I had a hard time putting weight on it at first, but I walked it off a little in the room and was able to come out.”

It’s still bothering him, though, and he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to go against St. Louis. With seven points in his last five games, the last thing he needs is to have to shut it down for a game or two.

“It would be a set-back,” he said. “I’m hoping it’ll be fine by tomorrow. I’m going to skate in the morning and see how it goes.”
