EDMONTON - Andrew Ference aced the physical portion of his Return to Action test, now he’s just a few brain teasers away from being cleared to play.

There are some injuries where the player can’t be counted on to tell you if he’s healthy or not and the one that sidelined Edmonton’s captain for the last three games is one of them.

“It wasn’t an out-of-the-ordinary play,” he said of the first-period hit against Phoenix. “I was clearing the puck on my off foot and couldn’t brace for it at all, so my head snapped back and hit the glass.

“It wasn’t the hit itself, it was hitting the glass with the back of my head. I got a little off balance and fuzzy for a bit. You hit protocol when that happens and go from there.”

In the old days they would have told him he got his bell rung and he’d have been back in the lineup days ago.
