Ben Scrivens has never played an NHL game at Rexall Place.

And while Edmonton Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins has not officially named the recently acquired goaltender as his starter Tuesday against the Vancouver Canucks, the Spruce Grove product is looking forward to the opportunity presented before him.

There’s a starting job to be won in Edmonton and Scrivens has less than half a season to audition for the role along with Ilya Bryzgalov.

“I don’t want to sell Bryz short, he’s a good goalie, he’s a guy that’s proven he can play and play at a high level in this league,” Scrivens said, following practice Monday. “I’m not going to put the cart before the horse at all. I’m going to come in and try and focus on my game, try to get better and try to play well when I’m called upon, whether that’s one start the rest of the year or all of them.”
