In one of those rare games where the goalie is being paid by both teams, Ilya Bryzgalov earned both of his paycheques Saturday night.

The rest of the Edmonton Oilers didn’t earn one.

They were part-timers, punching in for four strong minutes at the start, taking a 36-minute break, then showing up for fits and starts in the third period.

The end result was a 4-3 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

“We started well, then we kind of got back to our game of turning pucks over, trying to do too much and they were capitalizing,” said Jordan Eberle, after the Oilers blew leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in the third. “Their power play was the story -- we couldn’t stop it. Three power play goals pretty much writes the story.”
