EDMONTON - The first date circled on the new 2014 calendar for many Canadian fans is January 7 when the roster of Canada’s Olympic hockey team will be announced.

There are six Edmonton Oilers games between now and then. The recommendation here, if you are looking for a compelling reason to watch this already-out-of-the-playoffs team, watch Taylor Hall in those games.

And that goes for Steve Yzerman and the management group of Canada’s Olympic hockey team, too.

Until the last game before the Christmas break, few were mentioning the name of Taylor Hall as a Team Canada candidate. But Hall has been making himself worthy of being a late entry as a candidate to earn left wing spot on the team.

You don’t make an Olympic team on one game, but if you could, the game Taylor Hall had against the Winnipeg Jets Monday was the kind of game to do it.
