EDMONTON - Ilya Bryzgalov will make his first start for the Edmonton Oilers Thursday night against the Nashville Predators.
The goaltender got a taste of what it’s like to play with the club getting the call in relief duty Monday against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Bryzgalov went in for Devan Dubnyk who was mercifully pulled after giving up four goals in a 5-1 loss.
“It was good to be out there,” Bryzgalov said. “It was nice to be back. I had a couple of good practices with the guys, so I felt normal out there.
“Sometimes it’s good to get out there like that, sometimes it’s not, it all depends.”
Bryzgalov stopped 12 of the 13 shots he faced in just over 34 minutes of work. He was beaten on a tip in front by Andrew Shaw in the third period.
“I thought he was good,” said Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins. “You’re always concerned, it’s not the greatest way to throw him into the fire. But he’s a veteran guy and he’s got a little bit of a swagger.
