The Edmonton Oilers need points to claw their way up the standings.

And even though they were presented with a golden opportunity to pick up two more with the Florida Panthers in town, they’re at a point where it’s must-win regardless of the opponent.

“We’re kind of at that point, where it doesn’t matter who the opponent is, what their record is, or what they’ve done lately,” said Oilers captain Andrew Ference. “For us we need wins. We dug ourselves a hole that we have to try and get out of.”

In order for the Oilers to claw their way back to respectability, they need to win games against teams near them in the standings.

The Panthers came in just two points better than the Oilers.

“We’re not really dissecting who the opponent is as much as really concentrating on ourselves to maintain a better offensive game, get better attention to detail and we take the opponents as they come,” Ference said.
