EDMONTON - Ilya Bryzgalov wants everyone in Edmonton to reserve judgment.

Regardless of what’s happened in the past, the Edmonton Oilers new goaltender would prefer fans and media form a first-hand opinion of him.

“You have a great opportunity to have me here, and at the end of the season, judge me for yourself, not from what other people who say things,” Bryzgalov said. “I judge people myself, I don’t listen to other people’s opinion. I judge a person for myself. I have to know them first, have to know their actions, and after that, I form an opinion for myself.

“I don’t care what other people have to say about them.”

Bryzgalov arrived in Edmonton Sunday and took part in his first practice with the Oilers Monday amidst plenty of speculated baggage.

He is perceived as an eccentric goaltender who can be a distraction in the dressing room. One who was run out of Philadelphia, bought out just two years into a nine-year, $51-million contract.
