CHICAGO — Perhaps if the Edmonton Oilers played the Chicago Blackhawks every game, they wouldn’t be in their current predicament.

For some unexplained reason, the defending Stanley Cup Champions have always had difficulty dispatching the Oilers.

On Sunday, the Oilers gave the Blackhawks a good battle, eventually succumbing 5-4 at the United Center.

The Blackhawks shifted into a higher gear in the third period to finally put away the pesky Oilers, who battled back on a pair of occasions before running out of gas.

Brandon Saad, Andrew Shaw, Bryan Bickell, Marcus Kruger and Duncan Keith scored for the Blackhawks while, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nail Yakupov, David Perron and Jordan Eberle responded for the Oilers.

The loss was the Oilers third straight, having started their four-game road trip with a victory over the Florida Panthers.

The Oilers still just have four wins from their first 19 games of the season.
