Kevin Lowe has apologized for his “two types of fans” comment. Sort of.

But he didn’t explain. And he should have.

Edmonton Oilers fans were quite rightly incensed by the remarks of Lowe at Monday’s press conference to announce the firing of Steve Tambellini, and hiring of Craig MacTavish as general manager and Scott Howson as VP of hockey operations.

“We have two types of fans,” said Lowe Monday. “We have paying customers and we have people that watch the game but that we still care about. But certainly the people who go to the games and support, we spend a lot of time talking to them and delivering the message.”

Lowe’s video apology was posted on the team website early Wednesday morning.

“Yesterday (Monday) was a day full of excitement and passion and emotion, and I must admit my emotion ran a little high, and I have a few things to say to our fans in particular to clarify,” he said.
