Mike Brown was made to feel at home very quickly with the Edmonton Oilers, having been acquired in a trade earlier this year.

But the former Toronto Maple Leafs winger is also doing his part to endear himself to his new teammates.

On Thursday, Brown had a strong outing, being an imposing force physically and picking a fight with Columbus Blue Jackets rugged winger Jared Boll.

“Mike understands the need of a big hit, he understands the need of bringing a fight into our environment to bring up our emotions,” said head coach Ralph Krueger. “There’s not much to say about that, he does things right, he does things simple, he does things without distracting the team and without taking away from hockey.

“He can still play his game into those situations and back out of them immediately, which is probably not easy to do. I can’t imagine the preparation that goes into a game for a Mike Brown and the energy he needs for the 10 minutes he gives us.”
