Jones Ryan Jones has been playing catch-up.

Having taken a puck in the eye during a workout prior to the season, the Edmonton Oilers winger got off to a late start.

In 10 games, Jones is still looking for his first goal of the year.

“I feel pretty good,” said Jones. “It’s been a little bit of a tough year, I had to come off an injury and then I got sick.

“I got the flu and tried to play through it in Colorado then sat the next game. It was tough, it’s like being sick any other time and trying to play a hockey game. It was draining and I got fatigued quick, especially in Colorado where the air is thin.”

Heading into the season, the Oilers were looking for big things from Jones, who had come off impressive 18- and 17-goal seasons, respectively.

However, in preparing for the lockout-shortened year, the Chatham, Ont., product took a puck in the eye during a workout in Minnesota.

Jones needed emergency surgery to repair the damage to his left eye.
