ST. PAUL, MINN. - There were times Sunday night when it looked like the Edmonton Oilers didn’t give a shot.
Like the entire second period, when they didn’t register a single one.
In what has to be the worst game of the season, and a lot of other seasons, the Oilers were embarrassed by the Minnesota Wild.
The scoreboard flattered Edmonton, 4-2 makes it sound close, but the shot clock told the truth on this night.
The Oilers were outshot 18-0 in the second period, 29-7 through 40 minutes, 43-20 overall and have now been outscored 8-2 in their last five periods going back to a similar loss in St. Louis.
Ouch.
Minnesota scored first, just 2:37 into the first period, but Edmonton scored late, Magnus Paajarvi at 17:58 and it was all square after 20 minutes.
It was all square after 40, too, though it was absolutely clear at that point that the Oilers were going to lose.
