Jeff Carter scored with 49.6 seconds left in the third period to lift the LA Kings to victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
The Kings, who were out for revenge after their previous visit to Edmonton, in which the Oilers scored to tie it in the final seconds of the third period before going on to win it in overtime, got it with the 3-1 decision.
Carter’s deflection made it 2-1 in the final minute and Jarret Stoll’s empty netter sealed it for the defending Stanley Cup champions.
The Oilers, playing the third game of a five-game home stand that precedes a nine-game, 17-day road trip, swarmed LA in the opening half of the first period. It looked for a stretch like their speed would be too much for the Kings to handle, but Edmonton had nothing to show for the territorial advantage after a scoreless first period.
