Perhaps lost in the madness that was the Edmonton Oilers 6-4 comeback victory over the Colorado Avalanche Saturday, was the fact Nikolai Khabibulin won a game for the first time in over a year.
The Edmonton Oilers goaltender claimed his first victory since Feb. 11, 2012 entering the game in relief of Devan Dubnyk in the second period.
Khabibulin made 17 saves in the contest, including three outstanding ones in quick succession in the third period bringing the sold out crowd at Rexall Place to its feet.
“It feels awesome to win a game, but more importantly the way we won the game was real exciting to watch,” said Khabibulin. “I think it was one of the most dominating offensive performances I’ve seen. Not only the fact that we had 56 shots, but we created a lot of chances and the way we drove the net was pretty amazing to see.”
Khabibulin got the call at the start of the second period after Dubnyk had allowed three goals on 12 shots in the first.
