Oilers put Darcy Hordichuk on waivers, hope to send him to minors

The Edmonton Oilers, a team that once employed the likes of Dave Semenko, Marty McSorley, Dave Brown and Georges Laraque, believes the NHL has changed enough that a young, small team of skilled players doesn’t need protection anymore.
So Darcy Hordichuk is on waivers.
Despite being signed as a free agent two years ago, and re-signed when that deal expired, Hordichuk never seemed to play here.
Former coach Tom Renney didn’t give him the time of day and now Ralph Krueger doesn’t seem to have much use for him, either, limiting him to 14 shifts in 12 games.
His departure leaves the Oilers essentially defenceless, with just multiply concussed winger Ben Eager, who they shouldn’t want fighting, to do all their dirty work. Mark Fistric’s had three fights in the last two years.
“I haven’t seen a lot of fights this year compared with my first season,” said Krueger. “My second year it dwindled and it’s even less right now.
