EDMONTON - It can be a simple game when you have a skill team.
Don't take penalties. Play the game in the other end. Wait for the other team to take penalties. Score on the power play.
The Edmonton Oilers finally had that down pat last night, scoring four goals on the power play to beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1.
“With the skill set we have, we have to make it a habit, to stay out of the box, play the game in the other end and wait for the opportunities to happen. Four out of six isn’t bad on the power play,” said Krueger who, as an associate coach last year, took over the power play and coached it to third in the league at 20.6%, after being 27th at 14.5% the year before.
The Oilers came out of the game sitting second in the league on the power play, behind only San Jose at 35.7%. And the penalty kill is already up there in eighth place at 85.2%.
Next goal: Score five-on-five.
So far this season they have only managed to score two goals even strength. Two!
