Oilers off to a good start
By Terry Jones, QMI AGENCY

Nobody jumped off the High Level Bridge after the first period.

Nobody ran around town in a chicken suit claiming the sky was falling when the Edmonton Oilers went down 2-0 in the second period.

And now nobody should start planning the parade after their 3-2 shootout win over the Canucks in Vancouver.

The Oilers have won their first game of the season before. They did it two years ago and finished 30th. They did it last year and finished 29th.

But they also lost their first game on the road the last two seasons. And this was the 29th place Oilers versus the president trophy winners in Vancouver.

Vancouver won five of six meetings with the Oilers in 2011-12 and outscored Edmonton by a combined score of 22-13 during the season series. The Oilers had lost three straight and eight of their last nine games in Vancouver.

So there’s that.

Do you think the officiating has been fair in the Kings-Sharks series?
  Yes
  No
No ... but the refs seem to be evening it out themselves
