EDMONTON - Jordan Eberle said it was a lot different, going out for lunch without feeling like there was a neon sign on his head.

Taylor Hall rather liked grabbing a coffee without being stared at, having his picture taken and having people tweet his whereabouts, his wardrobe, whether his hair is a mess and whether or not he might have picked his nose.

Anonymity is a luxury they almost never get to enjoy.

But half a season in a non-traditional hockey market was more than enough.

Nothing against Oklahoma, but after a few months there, they came to realize just how badly they missed Edmonton.

“As soon as we landed here we saw the sign ‘You’re in Oil Country,’” said Hall. “You just know that you’re here to play hockey. You know the fans expect a lot out of you. You want that.”

Even if it means you can’t go shopping. Hall tried a couple of times, and wound up looking like an 18-year-old pied piper.

“We can’t go to the mall,” he said. “We’ve tried to go to
