Oilers' Lowe stands by deal
By Terry Jones, QMI Agency

Looking back, would Lowe have done it again?

Interesting question, with the story from Brian Burke about planning to rent a barn for a fist fight with Kevin Lowe.

Now that that the hatchet has been buried between Burke and Lowe, and now that Dustin Penner is a Los Angeles King, if Lowe had it to do all over again, would he have made the offer sheet to restricted free agent Dustin Penner to make him an Oiler?

Penner is returning to action from injury still looking for his first goal (0-2-2 in 14 games) after being a bust in Edmonton and being dealt for a first-round draft pick (Oscar Klefbom), Colton Teubert and either a second- or third-round draft pick this year, depending on whether the Kings make the playoffs.

“I’d do it again. Absolutely,” said Lowe.

“Brian thought it was reactionary. It was a carefully planned strategy. It was actually Plan C. The intent was to add 25 goals to our lineup.

“Based on the on ice results, well …

“Based on what we’ll end up with here, let’s wait and see two years from now.”

No fighting words in there.

“We’re good now. We’ve since made up. We have no need to talk on a regular basis. Steve Tambellini does that. But we’re talking again.”
