Eager to get healthy

EDMONTON - He’s Eager, all right. Who wouldn’t be after having to shut down training camp before training camp even got started?

But Big Ben will have to wait a little longer.

“I’ve been feeling great the last few days, had a lot of good treatement from the trainers here,” said Eager, still suffering the effects after being run into the end boards by Kirill Tulupov at the Joey Moss Cup.

“I’ve been getting as much rest as needed, hopefully get on the bike, see how I feel and maybe go on the ice in the next couple of days.”

Eager says it’s a cross between whiplash and a concussion, but it’s not that serious and he doesn’t expect it will follow him into the season

“To be honest I think it was pretty minor,” he said. “I’ve had a couple of concussions in the past, but I think this one was more neck related. My neck was pretty stiff and once I got over that the headaches started to go away. That’s encouraging.”

Missing the preseason, or most of it, anyway, puts him behind the pack, but it’s easier to make up ground when you’ve been around for a while.

“I’d love to get a couple of games in before the regular season but we’re going to take it day by day for now,” he said. “It’s an important time of the year to get some games under your belt in the preseason but at the end of the day it is just the pre-season

“You want to get your timing and be familiar with your linemates and things like that, but I don’t think it’s the end of the world if it doesn’t happen. We still have a week and a half of good practice time before the regular season starts.”
