PHOENIX — The Edmonton Oilers are sticking with what worked heading into their contest against the Phoenix Coyotes Tuesday.

The Oilers will ice the same lineup that beat the Anaheim Ducks two days earlier.

Defenceman Ladislav Smid took the morning skate with the team, but will not be inserted into the lineup, meaning Shawn Belle will suit up for his fourth game with the Oilers since being called up from their minor-league affiliate in Oklahoma City.

“Ladi is probably ready to go, but I would like to have a couple of more practices with him just to make sure,” said Oilers head coach Tom Renney. “We’re taking advantage of the fact that Shawn is here, we want to play him and leave everybody with another impression.”

In order to activate Smid from injured reserve, the Oilers would need to make room for him by sending a defenceman down to the minors.

Belle is eligible to play nine games with the Oilers before having to clear waivers on his way back down to the minors.

“We’re in no rush to do that, given where we are on this trip,” Renney said. “We want to give an opportunity for Shawn to play again, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Steve MacIntyre and Zack Stortini won't be in the lineup either.

The Oilers go into the game having snapped a six-game losing skid with a 4-2 win over the Ducks on Sunday.

The Coyotes, meanwhile head in on a six-game winning streak.

The last time the two teams met, on Friday, the Oilers built a 3-0 lead before conceding three unanswered goals on their way to a 4-3 shootout loss.

“Going down three goals wouldn’t be a recipe for success on most nights,” said Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett. “We made a couple of mental mistakes early in that game.

“They’re a good team if you give them opportunities, they can burn you. We expect them to be raring to go tonight.”
