The Edmonton Oilers took time out to spend with their fathers on the golf course Monday, and did not practise.

The club invited dads along on their two-game road trip through Anaheim and Phoenix.

A total of 18 fathers are on the trip.

“It’s great having them here,” said Dubnyk. “We don’t get to see them too often, and it’s great for them to get to see what we do. Once you get out of minor hockey and you get into junior, you get separated. They don’t get to come in the room, and miss out to what they get to do during minor hockey.

“To be able to bring them back and to be able to bring them to the rink and to the room, they all seemed to be having a lot of fun.”

Having the dads around has seemingly helped motivate the club, as they snapped a six-game losing skid with a 4-2 win over the Ducks.

“It’s a good thing,” said Oilers head coach Tom Renney. “It’s recognition of the help that the guys get along the way. It helps remind you that it’s just a game and we all had that help getting to the rink and it’s really good to have the dads here.”
