EDMONTON - The Oilers have placed netminder Jeff Deslauriers on waivers, signalling an end to their three-goalie situation.
The moves means Devan Dubnyk wins the backup job to Nikolai Khabibulin.
"They had to make a decision," said Deslauriers, who knew the Oilers couldn't carry on the way they were, giving up a roster spot to a third goalie who never plays.
"We had a feeling they had to make a decision at some point. I'm disappointed, obviously, because I felt part of the family here. Obviously. I've been part of the organization since '02, that's all I know."
Deslauriers will have to wait until noon eastern Tuesday to see if another NHL team picks him up. If not, he'll be assigned to the Oklahoma City Barons.
"We'll see what happens," he said. "It's going to be a new start and a new challenge for sure."
