The Edmonton Oilers trimmed their roster on Monday, getting down to 24 players.

Right winger Liam Reddox, defencemen Shawn Belle, and Richard Petiot, left winger Alexandre Giroux, right winger Ben Ondrus and centre Ryan O'Marra were all placed on waivers for the purpose of being assigned to the Oilers AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City.

Centre Chris Vande Velde and right winger Linus Omark were assigned directly to Oklahoma City not having to clear waivers.

The biggest questions going into the day were whether Reddox did enough to make that team and what defencemen would be let go with Belle and Petiot battling with Theo Peckham for the final spot on the blue line.

Peckham won the job just beating out Belle and the surprising Petiot, who turned heads with his strong play at training camp.

Reddox, meanwhile, looked to be in a battle with Ryan Jones for one of the final spots up front and just fell short.

"It's dissapointing," Reddox said. "I thought I had a pretty good camp, but they told me they were looking for a little more size on the bottom two lines.

"Unfortunately, there's not much I can do about that."
