Draft deja vu

DALLAS — Before there was Taylor vs Tyler there was Mike vs Trevor.

The last time the consensus 1 and 2 picks in the NHL draft met in the playoffs was 1988, when Modano’s Prince Albert Raiders took on Linden’s Medicine Hat Tigers.

Linden won the series, but Modano went first overall in a rivalry that lasted their entire careers.

The Oilers are walking into the same situation this summer if they win the draft lottery, knowing full well that whoever they spend their first pick on will be forever compared to the player they passed up.

If they take Taylor Hall, Oilers fans will always have one eye on Tyler Seguin, If they take Seguin, well, he better be better than Hall.

“There was always that little bit of battle between Trevor and I back in the day and it went on throughout our careers,” said Modano. “I think we felt we wanted to prove to the team that drafted us that it was the right decision.”
