Tuesday night was as close to the playoffs as the Oilers get, with a building full of fired up fans and plenty on the line (for Detroit anyway).
“It was pretty exciting. You got a taste of how this building can be in the playoffs,” said Andrew Cogliano. “It was very exciting at the end of the game. We would have really liked to come back and win, but all in all it was an exciting game.”
It makes them miss the post-season even more. Especially guys who’ve never played in them before.
“These are the small gains that you take out of a season like we’re having,” Cogliano said of the experience of Joe Louis Arena at its best.
“When you have a game like that — high emotion, the building is having fun and you’re playing hard — it gives you a taste of playoff hockey, and for guys like myself, young guys, we hope we get there as soon as possible.”
Gimblett’s big break
Former U of A Golden Bears winger Jesse Gimblett — who was dominant in the CIS nationals on the weekend — signed an AHL deal with the Springfield Falcons. He had 21 goals and 22 assists in 39 games with the Bears.
