Souray closer to skating
By ROBERT TYCHKOWSKI, SUN MEDIA

Sheldon Souray isn't being fitted for retirement slippers after all.

He's been kept off limits to the media since his injury three games into the season, leading to speculation there is something else wrong with him, or that his concussion might be career-threatening, but head coach Pat Quinn said the veteran defenceman is actually showing improvement.

"As far as I know he's getting closer," said Quinn.

"Apparently they did a test the other day and I had heard he's scheduled to skate. Not with us, by himself, but that's a first step.

"The test he did three or four days ago, apparently the numbers are more near normal, or at normal, so we're at the point where he can start workouts."

Souray has been on the sidelines ever since Jarome Iginla's careless stick resulted in him going hard into the end boards on Oct. 8.
