Mike Comrie today broke his silence on the subject of a possible return to Edmonton, confirming that he has indeed met with Oilers management and wouldn't be opposed to coming back.

"There has been dialogue with a lot of teams and Edmonton is one of them," said Comrie, adding he doesn't have a problem with coming back to his home town. "It was something that happened a long time ago when I was really young, a contract dispute that turned into a lot more than what it probably needed to be."

But there doesn't seem to be any grudges on either side. Comrie and the Oilers are both OK with a reunion in principle, it's just a matter of whether it would be the right fit.

But the fact it's even open for consideration and discussion is a monumental step forward from the summer of 2003.

"It happened a long time ago,‰ said Comrie. "The Oilers have such a rich history, there's so much pride in this organization, and there have been a couple of tough situations lately (Chris Pronger and Dany Heatley to name a couple) and I was one of those. I've come out after and said that I didn't handle it properly. I was young, I made mistakes and I learned a lot.

"I was 20 years old when I first played there. I'll be 29 this year. You live, you learn. I still have a lot of friends and family here."

He knows some of the fans in Edmonton are still mad at him, but he's watched other players forgiven for much worse than wanting to spread their wings.

"There are guys who do a lot and it goes full circle. It doesn't matter if you're Manny Ramirez or Michael Vick, guys gets second chances in different organizations and sometimes they get second chances in the same organization.

"Sometimes in life you learn a lot and you can make the best of it."

The Oilers have said they have no immediate plans to add Comrie, but will take another look at it when training camp begins.
