Oilers sign three players

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Ladislav Smid, Gilbert Brule and Ryan Stone to contracts.

General manager Steve Tambellini announced today the team signed defenceman Ladislav Smid to a two-year contract and forwards Gilbert Brule and Ryan Stone to one-year, two-way deals.

The 6'3", 226-pound Smid has played 202 career NHL games, all with the Oilers. He's tallied three goals and 22 assists and 152 penalty minutes.

He had a career high 11 points, all assists, last season, in 60 games.

Brule, 22, played 11 games with the Oilers last season, scoring two goals and one assist. He also suited up for 39 games with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, where he had 13 goals and 11 assists.

The 5'10", 180-pound centre has played in 157 games in the NHL, scoring 14 goals and getting 21 assists.

Stone was picked up, along with goaltender Dany Sabourin and a fourth round draft choice in 2011, from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for goalie Mathieu Garon on Jan. 17, 2009.

The 6'2", 215-pound centre played 38 games with the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins before being acquired by the Oilers. He recorded nine goals and 19 assists.

He notched eight goals and 20 assists for 28 points in 39 games with the Falcons after the trade.

In eight career NHL games, Stone recorded one assist.
