There was no official team update on Ethan Moreau's status yesterday.

The Oilers captain took a stick to the right eye late in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Minnesota Wild while battling Antti Miettinen in front of the net.

The Wild forward was assessed a double-minor for high sticking on the play, while Moreau had to be helped off the ice.

"He went straight to the hospital," said Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish following the game. "It looks pretty serious, but he went off under his own steam and we don't know anything more than that.

"The stick looks like it went right into his eye. There is a gash right above and below the socket. According to the doctors you could see where it raked across the eye."

Moreau did not stay overnight at the hospital.

It's uncertain whether he'll be able to join the Oilers on their four-game road trip starting tomorrow in Nashville.
