Ales Hemsky, Edm

There wasn,t a lot of offensive flair out there, but he was the best forward by a bit.

Dwayne Roloson, Edm

The Oilers didn,t generate a whole lot, so Roloson couldn't afford to make many mistakes.

Mikael Tellqvist, Phx

Comes in very cold, having not started in 17 games, and kept his low-scoring team alive.

WHY THEY WON

Because they played tight, defensive hockey at a time when they're not generating much offence. An ugly win still counts for just as many points.

PECKHAM PICKUP

Theo Peckham showed an important element of his game and livened up a dreadfully boring night in the second period when he popped Phoenix's Steve Goertzen in the head for bumping Roloson. The ensuing scrap wasn't great, but it was better than anything that happened to that point.

OT TRAVEL

Because of the airport curfew in San Jose, the Oilers took a two-hour flight to Oakland, then a one-hour bus ride to San Jose. They didn't get to their hotel till 2 a.m. After a few hours sleep they'll get up and get ready for the Sharks, who are 23-3-2 at home this year.
