Sheldon Souray, Oilers

Fresh off a two-goal performance at the all-star game, the hard-shooting defenceman is in a groove.

Thomas Vanek, Sabres

His first trip to Edmonton since Buffalo matched the Oilers' seven-year, $50 million US offer sheet.

COMING IN

The 24-19-3 Oilers are coming off a 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 24-18-5 Sabres are coming off a 5-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

GAME NOTES

The Sabres are 7-3 in their last 10 games heading into Edmonton ... After demoting Ryan Potulny, Gilbert Brule and Liam Reddox before the all-star break, the Oilers recalled Reddox yesterday ... His "week" consisted of one game - the four-pointer against Columbus - but it was enough to get Ales Hemsky named the NHL's third star of the week ... This is Buffalo's first visit to Edmonton since Oct. 16, 2003 ... The Oilers lost 2-1 in Buffalo last season on Daniel Briere's overtime winner.

HURT PARADE

Edmonton: Fernando Pisani (ankle).

Buffalo: Patrick Kaleta (neck); Maxim Afinogenov (groin); Andrej Sekera (undisclosed); Teppo Numminen (jaw); Henrik Tallinder (shoulder).
