With the Oilers having dropped to 28th in the NHL in face off winning percentage (down from 12th last season when Jarret Stoll and Marty Reasoner were here), Ethan Moreau is hitting the dot in practice to try to help out.

He was taking draws under the watchful eye of Craig MacTavish, who had plenty of tips for the winger.

"It's to give Horc (Shawn Horcoff) a little more confidence that if I'm out there with him on the PK he can be more aggressive in case he gets kicked out," said Moreau.

"Then I can come in. It's good to work on all parts of your game. More than anything, it's just to let Horc know that he can be a little more aggressive."

Moreau took PK draws last season, back when penalty kills could start out in the neutral or even offensive zones.

Now, with the first faceoff taking place in the defensive zone, he hasn't taken many at all.

But he's brushing up his skills so he had get back at it under the new rules.

"It's a hard job, that's why I never critique our face off percentages because it's extremely difficult,"he said.

"It's an art form. Horc is doing a great job, but if I can help out, even five draws a game, and do well, that will help."

MacTavish, a great faceoff guy in his day, says Moreau has potential.

"He's an intimidating guy to take a draw against based on his strength and the way he plays the game. It would be big if he could take some on the penalty kill as well."
