With Steve MacIntyre on the shelf for several weeks with a broken bone in his face, the Oilers reinforced their toughness yesterday with the addition of Jesse Boulerice.

They claimed the 6-foot-2, 215-pound winger off waivers. The 30-year-old New York native had four points and 46 penalty minutes in 12 games with Colorado's AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters.

He's played 170 NHL games with Philadelphia, Carolina and St. Louis, scoring 8-2-10 with 333 penalty minutes.

"We weren't sure of the (MacIntyre) time frame and wanted to take the advantage of adding a physical presence to our lineup and that happened to be through waivers," said Oilers GM Steve Tambellini. "We want to make sure we cover all the bases, from a skill standpoint, from a physical standpoint."

Boulerice spent last season splitting his time between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Phantoms. He was scoreless with 29 PIM in five games with the Flyers and registered 2-4-6 with 101 PIM in 36 games with the Phantoms.
