Big fella gets his dust-up

PHILADELPHIA -- After going several games without getting his dance ticket punched, Steve MacIntyre got into a heck of a dust-up last night in Philadelphia.

It probably shouldn't come as a big surprise - if there's one place a guy looking for a fight is going to find one, it's just off of Broad Street.

"He was trying to get his team fired up," said MacIntyre, who won a long and busy fight with Philly's Riley Cote early in the second period.

"He was trying to do his job. You have to respect a guy for doing that. It's a game of momentum and I was trying to keep it on our side. So we got at it."

Got at it good. MacIntyre was bleeding from a cut on his cheekbone before finally dropping Cote at the end of the bout.

"He caught me with a couple of good ones," grinned MacIntyre. "If you're going to scrap in this league you're going to take a couple to give a couple, that's the way it goes. He's as tough as they come."

And, unlike, say George Parros or Wade Brookbank, he was willing. Despite asking around every chance he gets, MacIntyre hasn't found many guys looking to mix it up.

It's a little frustrating, but as long as nobody's taking runs at the Oilers and as long as the other guys aren't scoring when he's on the ice, MacIntyre's happy.

"Fighting is almost a secondary thing," said the six-foot-seven, 265-pounder. "I think my biggest thing is to try and keep guys honest, try and make sure that whoever it is, they know I'm going to be watching and they can't take liberties with my teammates - that's the most important thing. You have to know your job, you can't take stupid penalties. You have to be smart in this game because with the amount of talented players there are in this league, they're going to capitalize on the power play and you're going to put yourself in a hole.

"You can't go out there and just fight for the sake of fighting. You used to be able to do that and get away with it. Not now."
