Moreau gets mad, gets even, gets winner

Ethan Moreau knew he'd wind up sitting in the penalty box for almost an entire period, but if it meant getting a few punches in on Tuomo Ruutu, it was worth it by him.

After Ruutu crushed Denis Grebeshkov with a big hit along the end boards late in the first period last night, Moreau rushed in and started swinging.

He got two for instigating, five for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct, but has no regrets whatsoever.

"No, he hit Hemmer (Ales Hemsky) earlier. Then he hit Greb. I don't know, maybe it was a clean hit, but I don't really care.

"He hurt him, so it doesn't matter who it was, I was going to go after him."

And after he got even, Moreau put the Oilers ahead with the game winner, then scored the empty netter to seal it.

"It's a huge let down when you get that penalty,"he said. "It's happened a few times in my career. It's a long time to spend in the box."

Sitting for the final four minutes of the first period, then the intermission, then another 13 minutes in the third period really tightens up the legs and can lead to injury, but Moreau went for a twirl late in the second and felt pretty good

"The most important thing is you really need to get back out there. If (MacTavish) doesn't throw me out in the second it's probably night over for me. It allowed me to get my legs."

As for Grebeshkov, he'll be evaluated today.

"He's all right, but he got rattled pretty good," said MacTavish. "We'll have to see how he comes through."

If he can't play, they'll dress Jason Strudwick.

FLYERS ARE RED HOT

It doesn't get any easier today, when the Oilers meet the Flyers (11 a.m. SportsNet), who've won their last four and are 4-0-2 in their last six.

Flyers goalie Marty Biron has won three straight after an 0-3-1 start.

"We've been playing really well defensively and not giving up as many scoring chances as the first couple of weeks,"he said.

"That's the key."

The Flyers are without centre Daniel Briere, who just had abdominal surgery.

GATOR MEETING AHEAD

The Old Home Week Tour continues when the Oilers meet up with former captain Jason Smith today, then former winger Raffi Torres in Columbus.
