His first goal this season proved to be one of the biggest for the Edmonton Oilers.

Yesterday Marc Pouliot scored to give the Oilers a 5-4 lead over the Colorado Avalanche en route to a 7-5 victory.

The goal came just 18 seconds after the Avalanche had scored their third goal in the third period to erase a 4-1 deficit.

"I just threw the puck at the net and Marty (Reasoner) and Fernando (Pisani) just crashed the net," Pouliot said. "They almost scored themselves, but I was able to go to the side of the net and get the garbage."

The goal not only restored the Oilers lead, but it also gave them back the momentum, having conceded three goals to the Avalanche in a 4:16 span at the start of the period.

After the third goal Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish called a timeout to calm the troops, then sent Pouliot's line over the boards.

"Obviously we were disappointed after giving up the three goals," Pouliot said. "MacT just told us to calm down, relax make some smart plays and that it was going to come. That's exactly what we did right after."
