More misery for Moreau

It seems almost too cruel to be true.

Captain Ethan Moreau, the victim of more long-term injuries in the last two seasons than any player should have to endure, may be lost again for the long haul.

He had to be helped into the dressing room last night after jamming his ankle into the boards late in the third period.

It's the same leg he broke in the pre-season and there are concerns that it might be broken again.

"It's not good," said head coach Craig MacTavish. "He's in there (training room) in a lot of pain right now. It doesn't look good. It looks very bad right now but we'll leave it at that until we get it X-rayed."

Moreau was trying to preserve the 3-2 lead late in the game when it happened.

"He just leveraged himself into the boards," said MacTavish.

"He went in to shut the boards off and spun himself and jammed the heel of his foot into the boards. You could see the way he finished the game he couldn't move."

It's hard to believe his luck. Moreau missed the last 75 games of last season with a shoulder injury after swinging and missing in a fight with Danny Markov.

Then he missed the first 38 games this year after being hit on the high ankle with a dump in during a pre-season game in Calgary.

He got in 25 games this year before this.

Last night was his 500th game as an Oiler.
