Ethan Moreau looked pretty good yesterday for a guy who was spitting out mouthfuls of blood after being high-sticked in the face by Shane O'Brien Tuesday night in Tampa.
Good thing it happened in Florida, where a plastic surgeon is never far away.
"He was great," said Moreau, who was sewed up like new. "My lip just exploded, it was split right open. He was so good. He sewed it from the inside out - 14 stitches, 11 of them on the inside. Looks pretty good."
Are the teeth OK?
There was no call on the play, but Moreau doesn't hold a grudge against the officiating crew, which included Oilers nemesis Mick McGeough and Kyle Rehman, a referee working his first NHL game.
"You almost feel bad for the guy - it was his first NHL game," said Moreau. "Not Mick, I'm not expecting to get a call from him."
The Oilers could have used a five-minute power play late in the third, but Moreau wasn't about to flop around.
"You try to let the refs know you got hit, you throw your head back and hold your mouth, but you can't (collapse)," he said. "We were in the offensive zone. I had a good chance right after it happened. They're human, it's just unfortunate that one of the four didn't see it."
