When it comes to goaltending, right now Craig MacTavish is in a situation where he can't lose.

No matter who they go with lately, the Edmonton Oilers are getting strong performances from either Dwayne Roloson or Mathieu Garon.

Yesterday MacTavish did not reveal who his starter would be tonight against the Dallas Stars. Yet if the rotation trend continues then it should be Roloson.

"All I can say is that there are a lot of discussions and a lot of factors that go into the determination of your goaltending," MacTavish said. "At the end of the day, there's not really a bad decision you can make right now.

"You just want to make sure that both goalies are getting enough work that they can stay where they are right now in terms of being on top of their game. We're going to have to manage this situation because both goalies are playing well."

Roloson has a 7-11-1 record with 3.15 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. Garon is 9-5-1 with 2.49 GAA and a .910 save percentage.

"It's been really productive for the team and that's the most important thing," MacTavish said. "There's nothing more that goes into the decision than what's right for the team."

So far both goaltenders have accepted the situation, and while they would prefer to play every night, are willing to start on a rotation basis. Although it's not always that cut and dried.

"I've never really put a lot of weight in the fact one goalie has played well against a certain team before," MacTavish said. "You have to stay in the loop regardless of who the team is and both goalies are playing well which is a great luxury for us to have."
