Oilers fire back at Burke
Lowe calls Ducks' GM a 'blowhard'
By ROBERT TYCHKOWSKI -- Sun Media

The Edmonton Oilers showed a little team defence yesterday by going on the offensive.

Tired of the constant verbal attacks from Anaheim GM Brian Burke, Kevin Lowe and Craig MacTavish both launched counter punches at The Mouth That Roared.

Burke, still upset that Edmonton signed Dustin Penner to a five-year offer sheet last summer, mugged for the TSN cameras on Tuesday, griping about the "colossal stupidity of what the Edmonton Oilers did."

"If I had run my team into the sewer like that," he continued, "I wouldn't have thrown a grenade at the other 29 teams - and my own indirectly."

Lowe responded yesterday by calling Burke an "egomaniac" and a "blowhard," and MacTavish likened him to a media puppet.

"He reminds me of the Wizard of Oz," said MacTavish. "You comb his hair, put a white shirt on, wheel him out in front of the camera and he'll say whatever you guys want.

"Clearly it's a crusade of self-promotion on his part. But what goes around comes around in this league."

As for Burke's indirect attacks on Penner, MacTavish told his player not to worry about it.

"It's probably more a reflection of what he feels about the Oilers, than Dustin. I wouldn't take it personally if I was Dustin."
