Geoff Sanderson couldn't have asked for a better landing spot.

He's been wanting to play in Edmonton his whole career and now, 16 years later, he gets his wish.

"I knew that I was in jeopardy of being traded out of Philadelphia. For me and my family it couldn't have gone any better coming to Edmonton. I thanked him. I told (GM Paul Holmgren) you're doing me a great favour trading me to Edmonton. I'm excited to be with the Oilers.

"It definitely makes it a lot easier going somewhere where you have a bit of a support system. It'll make the transition easier."

Sanderson got a firsthand look at Joni Pitkanen in Philly and says the Oilers are getting a rare talent.

"He's a great skater, a great shooter, he carries the puck well. He's such a raw talent guy. Once Charlie Huddy gets to spend some time with him, teach him about positional play, how to use his skills around his net, I think he's going to turn into a great player.

"I saw what he could do offensively, skate the puck out of his zone.

"He's got so much potential. I hate to compare him to anybody, but he's like Paul Coffey the way he skates the puck out of his own zone."
