Ryan O'Marra, one of the Islanders prospects acquired in the deadline deal for Ryan Smyth, is in Edmonton for Oilers development camp, but he won't be on the ice.

He's still recovering from knee surgery three months ago, so he'll be relegated to riding the bike and taking part in dryland training drills.

"I'm itching to skate," said O'Marra, who tore up his knee about five weeks after the trade. "Just to see the boys out there in the Oilers jerseys... it's tough to watch."

It's also tough being traded for the team's best and most popular player, but O'Marra won't be bringing any baggage with him to training camp in the fall.

"Initially there was some negative viewings (in Edmonton) about the trade," he said. "My friends were calling and preparing me, because I was in the U.S. Ryan Smyth being a fan favourite, Captain Canada, people were upset to see him leave, and rightfully so.

"You just have to put some of those things out of your mind. Right now I'm just focusing on doing the best I can and trying to get my foot in the door. The only thing I can control is my game."
