With centre Shawn Horcoff battling a bad case of the flu, the Oilers put in an emergency call for Robert Nilsson, one of the prospects acquired in the Ryan Smyth trade.

If Horcoff, who missed practice yesterday, is able to make it to the start line, Nilsson won't be allowed to dress. But if he can't, Oiler fans will get their first look at the young winger.

And, yes, he's pumped.

"Of course, I've been waiting for this since September," he said.

"I didn't even get an exhibition game. It's going to be my first game this year."

It happened so suddenly he's a little short on the details.

"I don't even know who we're playing."

Minnesota.

"When?"

Thursday.

"Where?"

Edmonton.

"To be honest I don't know anything right now, I just got instructions to get to the airport (in Chicago, where Wilkes-Barre was playing)."

Nilsson has 10 points in seven games with Wilkes-Barre and was the leading scorer in Bridgeport (the Isles farm team) before coming to the Oilers organization with Ryan O'Marra and a first-round pick.

That he's coming to an injury-ravaged team on an eight-game losing streak doesn't make a difference.

"It's just fun to be up there and try to show myself for next year," he said.

"I was in the same situation last year with the Islanders. We had half of the Bridgeport team up in The Show. I know what it's like. It'll be fun."
