In a rather appropriate setting - the Edmonton International Airport - Ryan Smyth will make his first public comments as a New York Islander this afternoon.
In his last comments as an Edmonton Oiler before yesterday afternoon's shocking trade, Smyth made it crystal clear he didn't want to leave.
"Anybody can get traded," said Smyth.
"Everybody gets a little tingle around this time of the year.
"But hopefully things work out."
In his final comments in the Oilers' locker-room, he left no doubt about the feelings in his heart.
"I think they (the Oilers) know where I stand," he remarked.
"Once I put my helmet on I go out and play for the crest on the front of the jersey."
