COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ladi Smid could have done his own play-by-play.
"Finally I scored! What a great feeling. Unbelievable.
"It was a great play from Raffi Torres. All I had to do was shoot it."
It was early in the second period, in his 57th game of the season, when the Edmonton Oilers rookie finally pulled the trigger for his first goal.
Smid said it was the longest he's ever gone without a goal in his life.
"When I was 16 or 17 playing senior hockey in the Czech Republic I think I might have gone about 45 games without one," he said.
"It was nice to see that," said coach Craig MacTavish. "He's a pretty happy character.
"I know not having a goal yet was a stat which was bothering him. It was good to see him get that goal. He's really been working hard on this trip. He's been a little more assertive with the puck and I think the goal tonight was a byproduct of that. Hopefully he'll keep progressing."
